Are you interested in becoming an American Canoe Association certified kayak instructor? Northeast PA Kayak School offers Instructor Development Workshops and Instructor Certification Exams at the following levels:
- Level 1 – Introduction to Kayak Instructor
- Level 2 – Essentials of River Kayaking Instructor
- Level 3 – River Kayaking Instructor
- Level 4 – Whitewater Kayak Instructor
The ACA certification is THE standard in the kayak instruction business—recognized by people worldwide—and we’re proud to offer courses for this organization.
If you need to be certified to teach for your kayak and canoe club, for a job as a kayak instructor, or to run kayaking programs for summer camp—this ACA certification course may be your ticket.
Teaching, and teaching properly, is emphasized throughout the course. There are many teaching styles, but there as many “learning styles”. We help you recognize, and teach to, a person’s particular learning style. In this manner your student absorbs as much as they possibly can to get the most from their experience with you.
Requirements to take the course:
- You must be a proficient kayaker
- You must be 18 years of age
Instructor candidates are evaluated and tested on teaching ability, technical knowledge, rescues and safety as they apply to a kayak class, and personal paddling style and skills.
Throughout this 45-50 hour course, great efforts are made to increase the teaching sensitivities and people sense of the candidates. There is a lot of time given to proper teaching methods, then lots of time to practice! Most people come out of these courses with much more information and skill-building than they expected. A lot of time is placed into proper form, as most new kayak students learn by watching their instructors. On top of everything we have loads of fun – after all, that IS why you started to kayak, isn’t it?
